ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hijra Farsi

So, sometimes people are born with a body that doesn't match how they feel inside. They might feel like a boy but they have a girl's body, or like a girl but they have a boy's body. We call this being transgender.

In parts of the world like Iran, Pakistan, and India, there is a special group of transgender people called hijras. They have been around for a really long time, even before there were TVs and phones!

Hijras might dress and act like women, but they are different from other transgender people because they have their own culture and traditions. They even have their own language called Hijra Farsi or Kinnari.

Hijras are often discriminated against and face many challenges, but they find strength in their community and their history. They have a rich cultural heritage that they are very proud of!
