Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are colleges and universities that were started by African Americans. They were created to provide African Americans with education and opportunities that were not available in other colleges or universities at the time. HBCUs have created and continue to provide a space for African-American students to learn, grow, and succeed. They provide students of color with an academic and social environment that supports their goals. HBCUs also offer support for students in the form of scholarships, internships, and mentoring programs.
