History of Italy

One group, called the Fascists, eventually took control and their leader, Benito Mussolini, became the country's dictator.
During World War II, Italy was an ally of Germany and Mussolini helped them fight against the Allied Powers. Unfortunately for Italy, they lost the war and Mussolini was killed. After this, Italy became a constitutional democracy and joined the European Union.
