History of Scotland

Scotland has a long history that dates back thousands of years. People have been living in Scotland since around 8500 BC. The Celts were the first group to form permanent settlements in Scotland. They lived in Britain and Scotland around 500 BC. They brought their culture and language to Scotland which still exist today. By the early 800s, the Kingdom of Scotland was formed. This kingdom eventually united most of Scotland and the island of Great Britain in 1707. This is when Scotland and England became part of the United Kingdom. Over the next centuries, Scotland experienced social and economic changes. This included the Industrial Revolution and the rise of a currency system. Scotland has experienced a lot of changes over the years, but it has kept its rich culture, language, and history alive.
