Honeypot (computing)

A honeypot is a computer system set up to look like it's vulnerable to attack, but is actually being monitored by security experts. It's a way for experts to observe and study people who might be trying to break into computers without permission. People who try to attack the honeypot will often have their IP address and other identifying information recorded, and can get in trouble for their attempts.
