ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Honeytoken

Honeytoken is a special type of trap or fake bait that is created to catch sneaky people who try to steal information by hacking into computer systems or websites.

Imagine that you have a jar of honey and you want to catch a sneaky little bear, but you don't want to hurt or kill it. So, you put a fake honey jar that looks just like your real one, but is filled with a special substance that won't harm the bear, but will mark it and let you know that it's been fooled.

Honeytokens work just like that. They are like fake computer files or fake user accounts that are created to look like real ones, but they contain special markers that reveal when somebody tries to access them without permission. This way, the computer or website owner can detect intruders and hackers before they can cause any damage.

Honeytokens are useful for all kinds of businesses and organizations that want to protect their sensitive data from hackers, spies, or cybercriminals. They are a powerful tool to detect and prevent cyber attacks, and they are also a fun way to trap sneaky bears!
