Hostile media effect

The hostile media effect is when people who have different opinions on an issue interpret the same news story differently. For example, if someone reads a news story about a political issue and they have a strong opinion about it, they might think the news story was biased against their opinion even if it wasn't. It is like two people looking at the same painting, but each person sees something different.
