Okay kiddo, imagine a group of animals that look like humans but have hair all over their bodies, walk on all fours, and can climb trees really well. These animals are called apes, and humans belong to this group too.
Millions of years ago, humans and apes had a common ancestor. But as time passed, humans evolved and changed in different ways from apes. Humans started walking upright on two legs, which allowed them to use their hands for other things like carrying food and making tools. Humans also developed bigger brains, which allowed them to think and communicate in more complex ways.
Today, there are many different kinds of apes. Some, like chimpanzees, are very similar to humans and can even learn how to use tools. Others, like gorillas, are much bigger and live in groups called troops. But even though humans and apes are different, we share a lot of similarities too – like having opposable thumbs and being able to smile and laugh.
