Igneous

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a volcano on TV or in books? When there's an eruption, molten rock called magma flows from the inside of the Earth to the surface. Once that magma cools and hardens, it turns into a type of rock called igneous. Ign-ee-ous.

There are two types of igneous rocks: intrusive and extrusive. Intrusive rocks are formed when magma cools and hardens underground, and they usually have bigger crystals because they have more time to form. Extrusive rocks are formed when magma comes out of a volcano and cools quickly on the surface, leaving them with smaller crystals.

Some examples of igneous rocks are granite, which is a popular material for countertops and buildings, and basalt, which forms when lava cools quickly on the surface and is often used for roads and buildings. So, in summary, igneous rocks are formed from magma that cools and hardens, and there are two types: intrusive and extrusive.
