ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Independent record label

Alright kiddo, so you know how musicians and singers make music, and then we can hear it on the radio or on our phones? Well, sometimes they make music themselves without the help of big companies called record labels.

Those are called independent record labels, or indie labels for short! It's kind of like having your own lemonade stand instead of selling it at a big store like Walmart.

Indie labels let musicians and singers make the music they want without any pressure from big companies to make it sound a certain way. They also help the artists make the music, like by recording it, making the album covers, and helping them get their music out to people who might like it.

Sometimes, indie labels can become really popular and famous, and even compete with the big record labels. And sometimes, the big record labels even notice and sign them on as one of their own!

So, think of indie labels as a way for musicians and singers to make the music they love on their own terms, and as a way for them to share it with people who will love it too. Cool, huh?
