ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Index Librorum Prohibitorum

The index librorum prohibitorum was a list of books that many years ago some people thought were bad and didn't want people to read. It was like a big list that said "These books are not good and you should not read them."

The people who made the list were worried that these books might make people believe in things that were not true or that were evil. The list was made by the Catholic Church, some kings and queens, and some other groups who wanted to control what people read.

But over time, people realized that this list was actually not so good because it prevented people from learning about new ideas and different perspectives. It was like putting a big roadblock in front of knowledge and information. So, the list was eventually abandoned and now people are free to read whatever they want.
