Indigenous Australians

Indigenous Australians are people who lived in Australia for a really long time before European settlers arrived. They have always been living in Australia for more than 60,000 years. They have their own culture, language, and traditions. For example, their language is very different from English, and they have their own special way of telling stories and teaching their children.

Indigenous Australians are special because they were the first people to live in Australia. They are also special because they have a deep connection to the land and take good care of it. They know the land better than anyone else and this knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation.

Indigenous Australians are also called Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Aboriginal refers to people from mainland Australia and Torres Strait Islanders are people who live in the Torres Strait Islands.

Indigenous Australians have faced many challenges over the years, including being treated unfairly by European settlers who came to Australia. They lost their land and their culture was threatened. But they have also fought hard to keep their traditions alive and to be recognized as the rightful owners of the land. Today, there are many programs that support Indigenous Australians and try to help them overcome the challenges they face.
