ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Inflectional phrase

An inflectional phrase is a group of words that work together to show changes in things like tense (past, present, future), number (singular, plural), person (first, second, third), and other grammatical features. Think of it like a team of little helpers who work together to change a word, kind of like how you might change your outfit for different occasions. Just like you might put on a hat, a jacket, and a pair of shoes to get dressed up for a party, an inflectional phrase might add an -s to the end of a word to show it's plural, or an -ed to show it's in the past tense. Without these little helpers, our language wouldn't be able to convey all the different ways we use words to talk about the world around us.
