ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Instruction creep

Okay kiddo, so imagine you are playing a game with your friends and you are trying to explain how to play the game. At first, you might only tell them a few simple rules like how to move and how to win the game. But then, as you keep playing, you might start adding more and more rules, like new ways to score points, or different things that players are not allowed to do.

Instruction creep is when this happens in real life, with instructions or rules for things like using a new tool, following a recipe, or filling out a form. When instructions get too complicated or too long, it can be hard to understand what to do, and sometimes people might even make mistakes because they are confused.

So, to avoid instruction creep, it is important to try to keep instructions simple and easy to understand. That way, people can follow them without getting confused or overwhelmed!
