Interdisciplinary sub-specialties of medicine are different areas of medicine that have experts which specialize in a certain area. When a problem is really complex, different sub-specialists can work together to figure out the best way to treat it. For example, if someone has cancer, their care team may include different sub-specialists like medical oncologists (doctors who know about cancer and how to treat it), radiation oncologists (doctors who know about radiation treatments to help fight cancer), and surgeons (doctors who can do operations to take out parts of the cancer). Other sub-specialists may be included as well. All these doctors working together give the patient the best chance of beating the cancer.
