Iranian Revolution

The Iranian Revolution was a big change in the country of Iran that happened in 1979. Before the Revolution, Iran was governed by a man named the Shah (king), and he was not very popular with the people of Iran. Because he was not popular and people did not like him, they started to protest against him and try to get him out of power. Finally, in 1979, the people were successful and the Shah was overthrown. A new leader named Ayatollah Khomeini became the leader and started a new government in Iran. The new government was called an Islamic Republic, which means that the law was based on the religion of Islam. Many laws were changed which made it difficult for people to do things like wear certain types of clothing, watch movies and listen to music. Even though the Revolution gave Iran a different kind of government, it wasn't popular with everyone, and it has caused a lot of conflict.
