Italic languages are a group of languages that are related to each other, like how you and your friends might have certain things in common because you all go to the same school or live in the same neighborhood.
The Italic languages were spoken a long time ago by people who lived in Italy and the surrounding areas. Some of the most well-known Italic languages are Latin, which was spoken by the ancient Romans, and Italian, which is still spoken by people in Italy today.
Just like how you might have trouble understanding someone who speaks a different language than you, people who spoke different Italic languages might have had trouble understanding each other. But over time, the different Italic languages started to influence each other and change, kind of like how you might start using some words your friend uses if you hang out with them a lot.
Nowadays, many of the Italic languages have evolved into different languages altogether, like how Spanish and French both came from Latin. But they still share some similarities because they are part of the same group of languages that started in Italy a long time ago.
