ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Italic peoples

Italic peoples were ancient groups of people who lived in Europe a long, long time ago. They were called "Italic" because they spoke languages that were part of the Italic branch of the Indo-European family of languages.

These people were divided into different groups, like the Latins, who lived in what is now Italy and spoke Latin. Another group was the Etruscans, who also lived in Italy and spoke Etruscan. The Samnites were another group that lived in central Italy and spoke Oscan.

These Italic peoples did many different things. Some were farmers and grew crops like wheat and grapes. Others were warriors and fought battles to protect their lands. They also had their own gods and goddesses that they worshipped.

Over time, these Italic peoples came into contact with other groups of people, like the Greeks and the Romans. Some were conquered by these groups, and their cultures and languages were influenced by them. But even though they may be gone now, their legacy, like their languages and cultural practices, live on in modern times.
