ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jallikattu

Jallikattu is a game that is played in some parts of India, mostly in the Tamil Nadu state. Basically, it’s a game of a mooo-ving target, where a bull is let loose into a crowd of people and the aim of the game is for a person to grab the bull by its horns and hang onto it for a certain amount of time.

It's like trying to catch a big fish in a river, except the fish is replaced with a bull! The game has been played for a very long time, and some people in the state of Tamil Nadu believe it’s very important to keep it going because it’s part of their culture and tradition.

However, some people don’t like it because they think it’s dangerous for both the bull and the people playing the game. In fact, sometimes people get hurt or even killed during the game.

So, some people think the game should be banned to make it safer for everyone. On the other hand, supporters of the game think that it should be allowed to continue as it’s a part of their heritage and tradition. There’s still a big debate going on about whether jallikattu should be allowed or banned.
