Japanese Flies

Okay, so have you ever seen a fly before? They're those pesky little insects that buzz around and land on things like food and people's heads. Well, in Japan, they have their own type of fly called the Japanese beetle.

These beetles are kind of like regular flies, but they're bigger and have pretty shiny green and brown bodies. They like to munch on plants and can sometimes be a nuisance to farmers and gardeners because they can eat all the leaves off the plants.

But here's the thing: Japanese beetles are not actually from Japan! They were first discovered in New Jersey, USA back in 1916, but somehow they made their way over to Japan and now they're kind of known as "Japanese" beetles.

Despite the confusion about their name, Japanese beetles are still an interesting and important part of Japan's ecosystem. They have predators that like to eat them, like birds and some types of wasps. Plus, they're just really cool to look at!
