Japanese empresses

Japanese empresses are like queens or princesses who rule over Japan. They are important women who have a special job of being the leader of the country. The emperor is the king and the empress is the queen of Japan.

In the past, only men could become emperors and rule over Japan, but there were also women who ruled. These women were called empresses and they were chosen in a special way. They had to be part of the royal family and were usually chosen because they were related to the previous emperor. They were always very important women who had excellent manners and were very smart. They were also very beautiful and wore beautiful clothes that were special to Japan.

When a new empress was chosen, there was a big celebration called a coronation. This is when the new empress would wear a special crown and special clothes that showed that she was the new ruler of Japan. People would come from all over Japan to see the new empress and wish her well on her new job.

The empresses had a very important job. They would make decisions about the laws of Japan, how to help the people who lived there, and how to be a good leader. They would also meet with other important people, like the leaders of other countries, to talk about important things that were happening in the world.

Some of the empresses were very famous. One of the most famous empresses was Empress Shoken. She was married to Emperor Meiji, who is also very famous. She was a very kind and gentle woman who loved art and poetry. She also loved to travel and would often go on trips around Japan to see all the beautiful places.

Even though there are no longer empresses who rule over Japan, their history and impact on Japanese culture is still remembered and celebrated today.
