ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jet aircraft

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about jet aircraft! You know those big planes you see in the sky that go really fast and make a loud noise? Those are jet aircraft.

Inside the plane there is a special engine called a jet engine. This is what helps the plane move and go fast. The engine takes in air from the front and squeezes it really tight. Then it adds some fuel and sets it on fire.

This creates a lot of hot gases which shoot out the back of the engine really fast. This is what pushes the plane forward and makes it go fast!

But before the plane can fly really high and fast, it needs to get going really fast on the ground first. This is why you see planes speeding up before taking off. Once they get up in the air, they can fly very high and very fast!

Inside the plane, you'll find seats and a lot of other stuff like a cockpit where the pilots sit, and the cabin where people sit.

That's the basic idea of jet aircraft, kiddo! They're really cool and they help us travel to different places in the world really quickly!
