ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Just War

Just War is a way of deciding if starting a war is the right thing to do. It is important to think carefully about this because wars can be destructive and cause a lot of harm and suffering. In order to decide if starting a war is a good idea, Just War has a set of rules that have to be followed.

The first rule is that the war must have a good cause or a just cause. This means the war must be fought because it is the only way to make sure the bad things that are happening stop.

The second rule is that the means of fighting the war must be proportionate. This means that the force must be used to stop the bad things that are happening, but it must not cause more harm and suffering than what it is trying to stop.

The third rule is that all efforts must be made to prevent or minimize harm and suffering to innocent people. This means that the way the war is fought should not hurt innocent people who are not involved in the war.

The fourth rule is that the war should have a chance of success. This means that it should be possible to win the war.

These are the rules of Just War and they are used to help decide if it is okay to start a war.
