ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

LGBT History Month

Hey there little one! So, do you know what LGBT means? It stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. These are different ways that some people identify themselves when it comes to their romantic feelings or gender.

Now, LGBT History Month is a time when we celebrate and remember some of the important people and events in history that have to do with the LGBT community. We want to make sure that everyone knows that the LGBT community exists, and that they have always been a part of history, even though sometimes they were not talked about or recognized.

During this special month, we learn about people like Harvey Milk, who was an important gay rights activist and politician or Marsha P. Johnson, a black, trans woman who was a pioneer in the fight for LGBT rights. We also celebrate important rights victories like the legalization of same-sex marriage in many countries.

It's important for everyone to know about LGBT History Month because it reminds us how far we've come in accepting and supporting the LGBT community, and how much work we still have to do. It helps us to have respect, kindness and love for all people and understand that everyone deserves to be treated equally.
