A land speed record is basically like a super, duper fast car race. People try to make their cars go as fast as they can on a long, flat stretch of land. The goal of this race is to go faster than anyone else has gone before, and get their name in the record books!
These super-fast cars are not like the ones you see driving around on the streets. They are specially built just for this race, and they have to be very, very powerful. These cars have big engines and are usually very aerodynamic, which means they are designed to move very smoothly through the air.
When someone tries to break a land speed record, they first have to find a good spot to do it. This means they need to find a place where the land is very flat and long, so the car has plenty of room to speed up. They also have to get permission from the people who own that land, so they can use it for their race.
Once they have the spot picked out, the driver gets into the car and starts it up. The car will start moving slowly at first, but as the driver pushes down on the gas pedal, it will go faster and faster. The driver has to be very careful, though, because if the car goes too fast, it might start to shake or wobble, which could be very dangerous.
The driver will keep going faster and faster, until they either run out of room to drive or the car can't go any faster. When the race is over, the driver will find out how fast they went. If they went faster than anyone else ever has, they will have broken the land speed record!
