Landslide

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with mud or sand at the beach and made a little hill? When you built the hill up, did you notice that sometimes the sand or mud would start to fall down on its own without you doing anything? That's kind of like what a landslide is, but on a much bigger scale.

Landslide happens when lots of dirt, rocks, and other materials that make up a hill or a mountain start to move down the slope, all on their own. This can happen for a lot of reasons like heavy rains, earthquakes, erosion, or just because the soil and rocks are unstable.

Imagine a big pile of blocks stacked on top of each other. If the blocks at the bottom start to move or slide, then all the blocks on top of them will start to follow and fall over too. That's what happens during a landslide - the lower layers of soil and rocks start to move and the top layers come tumbling down with them.

When a landslide happens, it can be dangerous for people and homes that are nearby. That's why it's important to be careful and stay away from steep hills or mountains if it looks like there might be a landslide coming.
