Latent semantic analysis

Latent semantic analysis is a way of analyzing words and understanding how they relate to each other. It looks at words that are used together a lot, and knows that those words are related. It's kind of like if you wrote down a lot of sentences and then looked for patterns between the words. For example, it could notice that the words "cat" and "kitten" are used together a lot, so it would know that they are related. It can also tell when two words are related but don't always appear together, like "cat" and "animal".
