ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lesser of two evils principle

The 'lesser of two evils' principle means that when you have two bad choices and you have to pick one of them, you should choose the one that causes the least damage. For example, imagine you are walking down the street and you see two pieces of candy on the ground. You know that eating candy off the ground is not good for you, but you also know that eating candy off the ground is better than eating dirt. In this situation, you should pick the candy because it is the lesser of two evil choices.
