ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Level crossing

Okay kiddo, so you know like when we are in a car and we have to cross a road with our car, right? Similarly, trains also have to cross roads but since they are really big and fast, they have to do it carefully so that they don't hit any cars or people. That place where the train crosses the road is called a level crossing.

At the level crossing, there are signals and barriers that tell cars and people when it's safe to cross the railway tracks. The barriers are like big arms that come down from either side of the road, blocking cars and people from crossing, so that the train can go safely.

A train gives signals like sounding a horn or flashing lights to warn people that it's coming, and it's important for drivers and walkers to listen and watch out for these signals.

It's really important to be careful around level crossings because trains are really big and they can't always stop quickly, so it's very dangerous to try to cross the tracks in front of them.

So remember, always be careful around level crossings and listen to the signals and barriers.
