Level of measurement is a way to measure how precise or exact your measurements are. It is important to pick the right level of measurement when you are collecting data, because different levels of measurements give you different kinds of information.
There are four levels of measurement: Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, and Ratio.
Nominal measurements are the least precise. They tell you if two things are the same or different, like if you are male or female.
Ordinal measurements tell you which data is bigger or smaller. For example, you can use ordinal measurement to rank people from most to least popular.
Interval measurements tell you how much bigger or smaller one data is than another. For example, if you want to know how hot it is, you can measure the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
Ratio measurements tell you how many times bigger or smaller one data is, compared to another. For example, if you want to measure height, you can measure it in feet and inches.
