Lifting body

So, you know how when you jump off a diving board and you feel yourself falling down super fast? That's because your body doesn't have wings or anything to help it stay in the air.

But sometimes, people want to design something that can stay in the air without wings, kind of like a bird or a plane. They create something called a lifting body.

A lifting body is a special kind of shape for a vehicle - it's designed to create lift, which is what keeps things up in the air. It does this by using the air that's rushing past it to create pressure differences between the top and bottom of the lifting body. This pressure difference pushes up on the body and helps it stay up in the air, even if it doesn't have wings.

Lifting bodies can be used for all sorts of things, like military planes or even things that go to space. But they're always designed to create lift so that they can stay in the air or go higher without needing wings.
