ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Line hunting

Okay, imagine you have five friends and you want to talk to them on the phone. But you only have one phone line. That means only one person can talk to you at a time.

So, you start calling your friends one by one. But what if they're not answering? That's where line hunting comes in!

Line hunting is like having a backup phone number for your friends. If one friend doesn't answer when you call, the phone automatically tries the next friend's phone number until someone picks up.

It's kind of like when you play hot potato - if one person drops it, the potato gets passed to someone else. In the same way, if one phone number doesn't work, the phone system tries the next number until it finds someone who picks up.

This way, you don't have to wait around for your friends to call you back. Instead, you can talk to whoever is available right away!
