ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Local loop unbundling

Local loop unbundling is when different companies (let's call them "people") want to use the same cables to provide internet and phone services to you at home.

Imagine you have a long straw (that's like a cable) that brings juice (that's like internet and phone signals) to your cup at home. This straw belongs to a company (let's call them "Mommy and Daddy Company") that sells you juice (internet and phone services) to drink at home.

But now, other companies (let's call them "Juice Friends") want to use your straw to give you their own kind of juice (internet and phone services). That's where local loop unbundling comes in.

It's like Juice Friends borrowing your straw from Mommy and Daddy Company. They agree with Mommy and Daddy Company to split the straw between them (this is called "unbundling"). So, Juice Friends can put their own juice (internet and phone services) into the straw and bring it directly to your cup at home.

Local loop unbundling benefits you because you get to choose from different types of juice (internet and phone services) from different companies (Juice Friends). It also challenges Mommy and Daddy Company to offer better and more affordable juice (internet and phone services).
