Lombard League

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago in Italy, there were lots of powerful cities like Milan, Venice, and Florence. They were very rich and everyone wanted to trade with them. But sometimes, the powerful cities would be mean to the smaller cities and charge them too much money for trading.

So the smaller cities decided to band together and form a group called the Lombard League to protect themselves from the big bullies. The League was made up of smaller cities who all agreed to help each other if anyone was being treated unfairly.

They decided to work together to make fair rules for trading and to protect each other's territories. They were very successful and even won wars against the powerful cities when they tried to take over smaller cities.

Eventually, the Lombard League helped to bring more power to the smaller cities and make things more equal for everyone. So it was kind of like the Lombard League was a superhero team for the little guys who were being picked on by the big guys.
