ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Low carbon diet

A low carbon diet is when you try to eat foods that have lower levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere when they are produced. This means avoiding food that requires burning lots of fossil fuels or has to travel long distances to get to you. These types of foods are often called "high carbon" because they produce a lot of the CO2 that goes into the atmosphere. To have a low carbon diet, try to eat foods that are grown or produced locally, or are organic (not using any chemicals or fossil fuels). Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, such as apples, oranges, and potatoes is a great way to reduce the amount of CO2 your diet generates. You can also choose to buy local, organic, or "low-carbon" meat, eggs, and dairy products.
