The Lucas Island Model is an example of how people's decisions change depending on how other people decide. It's like a game! In the Lucas Island Model, you have two people, called Rob and Lucas. Both of them are on a small island and each one wants to be the mayor. However, if both of them decide to run for mayor, then neither one will get the job. So, Rob and Lucas each have to decide whether to run for mayor or not.
Rob will run for mayor if he thinks Lucas is also going to run, but will not if he thinks Lucas is NOT running. Similarly, Lucas will run for mayor if he thinks Rob is running, but will not if he thinks Rob is NOT running. So, the outcome of the game will be based on what each of them decides to do. If they both choose to run, then neither one gets the job. If one of them runs and the other doesn't, then the one who ran will be the mayor.
