Magnetic monopole

A magnetic monopole is a tiny particle that acts like a magnet, but with only one pole. A normal magnet, like the kind you stick on your fridge, has two poles - a north pole and a south pole. These two poles always come together in pairs. Magnetic monopoles are different - they are just a single pole, so they don't have the north and south poles like a normal magnet does. Scientists think that magnetic monopoles might be tiny particles that make up atoms, and if we could find them, it might help us understand the universe better.
