Maize

Maize, also known as corn, is a yummy and healthy plant that grows in fields. It looks like tall grass but has tall stalks with big leaves and ears that contain little kernels.

Now, let's talk more about these ears. They are the yummy part of maize that we eat. When the farmers harvest corn, they collect these ears, clean them and then take off the layers that cover the kernels. The kernels are the small yellow, white or red bits that you might see in your food.

Maize can be cooked and eaten in lots of different ways. It can be boiled, roasted, made into flour or popped in the popcorn machine. When we eat maize, we are not just satisfying our taste buds but also getting lots of healthy vitamins and minerals.

And did you know that maize is also used to make lots of other products? It can be used to produce animal feed, fuel, oil, and even some medicines! So, next time you see a field of tall grass-like plants, remember that it could be maize, and it is much more than a simple plant.
