ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Majority minority

So, let's say there are 10 kids playing at the park. Six of them have blue shirts on and four of them have green shirts on. We can say that the blue shirt kids are the majority because there are more of them. And the green shirt kids are the minority because there are fewer of them.

Now, let's apply this to people living in a neighborhood or country. When we talk about a "majority-minority" area, it means that there are more people of one race or ethnicity than any other. For example, if there are a lot of people in a neighborhood who are Hispanic, and not many who are White or Black, you might say it's a majority-Hispanic area.

This term is important because it helps us understand how diverse or homogenous a place is. It can also be used to recognize the experiences and needs of different groups of people. For example, if a place is majority-minority, it might mean that there are particular challenges or inequalities faced by the minority group that need to be addressed.
