ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Makapili

Makapili is a word that comes from the Filipino language. It is a word that refers to a group of people who helped the Japanese army during World War II.

Now, let’s imagine that you are playing a game with your friends. You are the “good guys” and your friends are the “bad guys”. Suddenly, someone comes along and wants to help the “bad guys” and hurt the “good guys”. This is what the Makapili did during the war.

The Japanese army came to the Philippines during World War II and they wanted to take over the country. The Makapili were Filipinos who agreed to help the Japanese army. Instead of fighting against the Japanese, they helped them by spying on their fellow Filipinos, telling them where the “good guys” were hiding, and even sometimes fighting against their own people.

The reason why the Makapili helped the Japanese army is because they were promised money, power and safety by the Japanese. But this was not a good thing to do because many Filipinos were hurt because of them.

It is important to always remember that helping the “bad guys” is never the right thing to do, even if they promise you things like money or power. We should always try to do what is right and good.
