ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mapungubwe

Mapungubwe is a special place in Africa where people used to live a long, long time ago. It's kind of like a big outdoor museum that teaches us about life in ancient times.

Can you imagine what it was like to live in a place where there were no phones, computers or even cars? People who lived in Mapungubwe had to rely on things in nature like the sun, plants and animals to survive.

At Mapungubwe, you can see special things that people made a long time ago. There are pots that they cooked and stored food in, and even jewelry that they wore. You can also see cool artifacts like spearheads and even statues of animals like elephants and rhinos.

One thing that made Mapungubwe really special is that the people who lived there were very skilled at making things out of gold. They found gold in the earth and then turned it into beautiful things like jewelry and special items that were used in important ceremonies.

Even though the people who lived in Mapungubwe a long time ago are not here anymore, we can still learn a lot from the things they left behind. It's like a special time-capsule that we can explore and use to learn about our shared history.
