ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Maritime domain awareness

Maritime domain awareness is like playing a really big game of hide and seek, but with ships instead of people. Imagine you and your friends are trying to find your little brother who is hiding somewhere in your house. You have to look in every room and listen for any noises he might make to figure out where he is hiding.

Well, maritime domain awareness is a similar game, but instead of finding people, we are trying to find ships in the ocean. The ocean is a really big place and there are lots of ships out there. We need to know where they are, what they are doing, and if they are supposed to be there. This helps keep the sea safe for everyone.

To play this game, we need lots of tools like radar and satellites to help us see the ships, and communication devices to talk to the ships or other people who might know about them. We also need really smart people who know a lot about the ocean, ships, and where they should and should not be.

With all this information, we can make sure that the ships are doing what they are supposed to be doing and that they are not causing any problems. We can also keep an eye out for things like pirates or other dangerous situations so that we can keep the sea safe for everyone who uses it.
