Marrano

Marrano is a Spanish word that means a person who is Jewish and pretends to be Christian. This means, someone who is Jewish, but hides their Jewish identity so that people around them don't know that they are actually Jewish. This was especially common during the Spanish Inquisition, when Jews were prosecuted and even killed for being Jewish. People would pretend to be Christian to try and stay safe.
