ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Material feminism

Alright kiddo, material feminism is when people believe that the things we use and the way we use them can affect how men and women are treated differently.

Think about it like this: boys and girls are usually given different toys to play with. Boys might get trucks and action figures, while girls might get dolls and dress-up clothes. This might not seem like a big deal, but it can make a difference. It can teach boys to be tough and aggressive, while teaching girls to be pretty and quiet.

Material feminists believe that changing these kinds of things can help make the world more equal. They think that if we give girls the same toys as boys, and let them play together, they'll learn different things about themselves and each other.

Material feminists also believe that making sure women have access to things like education, jobs, and health care can make a big difference. If women are able to work and earn money, they can be more independent and have more control over their lives.

So, material feminism is all about looking at the stuff we use and the way we use it, and figuring out how we can make things more fair for everyone.
