The Medieval Inquisition was an organization during the Middle Ages that investigated and punished people who were suspected of being part of religions or groups that were not approved by the Church. The Medieval Church had very specific rules about which belief systems were acceptable, and anyone that didn't follow these beliefs would face punishment, like being put in prison. During an Inquisition, people would be asked questions to try and figure out if they were part of the wrong group, and if they didn't answer the questions correctly, they faced imprisonment and torture. In the end, if people were found guilty, they could be executed.
