Inquisition

The Inquisition was a time in history when the Church - a group of people who believed in the teachings of Jesus - hunted down people who didn't believe in the same things that they did. These people were called 'heretics' and were punished for not believing the same things as the Church. During this time, there were often people who would accuse others of being 'heretics' and try to get them in trouble with the Church. The Church would then investigate whether or not the accused were actually heretics or not, and if they were, then they would be punished. The punishments included things like imprisonment, torture, or even death.
