ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mental health counselor

A mental health counselor is a special grown-up who can help you when you're feeling worried, sad, or upset about something. They're kind of like a big sibling or a teacher, but their job is to talk with you and help you feel better.

Just like how you have a doctor for your body, a mental health counselor is someone you can go to if you need help with your feelings and thoughts. They can help you understand why you might be feeling the way you are and teach you different ways to cope with those feelings.

When you go see a mental health counselor, you'll probably sit in a comfortable room with them and talk about what's been happening in your life. They might ask you questions to help you think about things more clearly and help you figure out what steps you can take to feel better.

It's important to know that seeing a mental health counselor doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It just means you want to feel happier and more confident in yourself. It's a really brave thing to do to talk about your feelings with someone else, and a mental health counselor is always there to support you.
