So, you know how sometimes when you look up at the sky at night, you can see lots of little dots of light? Those little dots are called stars. And there are so many stars up there that it can be hard to keep track of them all.
Well, a long time ago, a man named Charles Messier decided to make a list of all the things in the sky that were not stars, but looked kind of like stars. These things are called deep sky objects, and they can be really interesting to look at with a telescope.
Charles Messier made a list of these objects, and he called it the Messier Catalogue. It has lots of different things on it, like galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. Each thing on the list has a number, so that people can easily find it.
And now, lots of astronomers use the Messier Catalogue to help them find and study these deep sky objects. It's like a really big and important list of cool things to look at in the sky!
