ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Metathesis (linguistics)

Metathesis is when you switch two sounds or letters around in a word. For example, if you say "aks" instead of "ask", that's metathesis. It's like a word jumble, but it usually happens by accident in spoken language. Sometimes people just find it easier to say some words backwards, like "warsh" instead of "wash". It can happen in other languages too, like in Spanish when people say "perrro" instead of "perro". So, metathesis is just when you mix up the order of sounds or letters in a word.
