ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Military organization

Okay kiddo, so have you ever played on a sports team? Like soccer or basketball? Well, think of the military like a really big sports team that protects our country.

But instead of having one coach, they have lots of different leaders who are in charge of different groups of soldiers. These leaders are called officers, and the soldiers they lead are called enlisted personnel.

Each officer has a specific job, just like in a sports team, where some people are in charge of offense and others defense. But in the military, officers might be in charge of things like logistics (which is making sure everyone has everything they need to do their job), intelligence (which is gathering information about the enemy), or operations (which is actually planning and carrying out missions).

The military is made up of different branches, like the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Each branch has its own unique job and way of doing things.

So, just like how there are different positions on a sports team, there are different jobs in the military. And just like in sports, everyone has to work together and follow the leaders to get the job done and keep our country safe.
